Garden Care Calendar
Jobs for the Month
August
Continue mowing regularly, if the weather
is dry and the grass is dry mow less often and leave
off the grass box, if your mower is a "self mulcher"
now is the time when it will come into its own. Brushcutters
will be useful for tidying up the edges and cutting
around trees and along walls. If there is a lack of
rain, you may need to consider watering. Hedges will
have been growing for some months now and may well
require trimming.
Lawncare:
- Continue mowing regularly.
If the weather is very dry, mow less often and leave
off the grass box.
- If your mower has a "mulching"
attachment the best time to use it is when the grass
is fairly short and dry.
- This is the last chance
to prepare ground for sowing seed or turfing next
month.
- Water the grass if it needs
it.
- For isolated deep-rooted
weeds, spot treat with weed killer
- If you haven't fertilised
for six weeks consider another application - lawns
will thrive on a good balanced diet
>>
Fertilising with a high nitrogen fertiliser
can still be carried out at six week intervals throughout
the Spring and early Summer
